PS2 Web Recomp Download & Requirements
There is no prebuilt installer — and that’s important
ps2-web-recomp ships as source code. There is no official .exe, .dmg or setup wizard, and no “download the game” package. Any website offering a “PS2 Web Recomp download” as a ready-made installer is not the project. The only official source is the GitHub repository:
Download the project (correct way)
git clone https://github.com/snuri00/ps2-web-recomp.git
cd ps2-web-recomp Prefer a ZIP? Use GitHub’s Code → Download ZIP button on the repository page. You’ll still need the build tools below — the project compiles a native runtime and, on first run, installs the Emscripten SDK to build the web page.
What you need before building
| Requirement | Details | Needed for |
|---|---|---|
| Linux (x86-64) or macOS (Apple Silicon) | Everything has been run on Linux x86-64; the scripts also build on Apple Silicon, where they need a newer bash (brew install bash) | Whole pipeline |
| git, CMake, Ninja | Standard build tooling | Building runtime + page |
| C++20 compiler | clang is preferred and picked up automatically | Compiling generated code |
| Python 3 | Runs the port script and the local dev server | port.sh, serve.py |
| 7-Zip | Only if your disc image is inside a .7z archive | Unpacking disc images |
| Chrome or Edge with WebGPU | Windows/macOS ship it by default; on Linux it must be enabled in browser flags | Playing in the browser |
| ~300 MB disk per game | Generated code and builds; the disc image itself is linked, not copied | Recompiling |
| A disc image of a game you own | No game data is included or downloaded by the project — you bring your own ISO (or ZIP/7z archive of one) | Running a game |
One-command install (Debian/Ubuntu)
sudo apt install git cmake ninja-build clang python3 p7zip-full Then follow the full tutorial to recompile your first game.
What you are NOT downloading
- No PS2 BIOS. You don’t need to dump a console BIOS — the runtime answers the operating system itself and provides a boot path like the BIOS gives.
- No games. The project contains no game data and downloads none. Compatibility comes from recompiling your own disc image locally.
- No emulator executables. There’s no PCSX2-style “app you click.” The output is a web page (and optionally a native window) built from your game.
